The Mitsubishi 4G63T Engine 1G first generation engine was introduced in Mitsubishi’s iconic car, Galnat VR-4, which came into the market from 1987-1992. The chassis code of Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 is E38A E39A. It is a four-door sedan with a Four Wheel Drive system and active four-wheel steering. It was Mitsubishi’s first car with an Active Four Wheel steering system.

The engine a Compression ratio of 7.8:1. 4G63T engine was considered one of the most reliable Four-cylinder engines ever produced and was equipped with the TD05H 14B turbocharger for manual transmission. It has a boost of 8.7psi. The starting version of 4G63T produces only 195 hp (horsepower) at 6,000 rpm and 294 Nm. In 1989, Mitsubishi Motor Corporation upgraded the  ECU. By doing this upgrade, the power was raised to 220 hp.

Slightly Upgrades Done By Mitsubishi IN 1990

 Mitsubishi Motor Corporation brought Mitsubishi 4G63T Engine, named Lancer Evolution, to Mitsubishi Lancer because Galant VR-4 is much heavier than Lance Evolution. Several changes were made in 1990 for the Lancer Evolution. The 4G63T has the new injectors, a larger intercooler, a larger turbo, and new lightweight connecting rods, and it’s an all-wheel drive with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The compression was increased for Lancer Evolution I and II. The 4G63T produces 240 hp for Evolution I and Evolution II is 260. The torque was increased to 309 Nm at 3,000 rpm. The Evolution III had slightly increased the compression ratio and used a larger turbocharger than the previous model, which increased power to 270 hp at 6,250 rpm and   309 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm.

Second Generation of 4G63T

The second generation Mitsubishi 4G63T Engine G2 was introduced in the Lancer  Evolution IV, Lancer Evolution V, and Lancer Evolution Evolution VI. The engine was redesigned by changing the position of the cam derive of the machine and flywheel. By changing this, the place of the engine relocated to the right side of the engine bay.

This is equipped a new cylinder head, so they have different exhaust and intake ports cylinder head. It has 450cc fuel injectors, lightweight pistons, and a better compression ratio. It has an upgraded exhaust intake. There is a new intake manifold and throttle body with a 52 mm valve.

A laminated steel gasket is now between the engine block and cylinder head. The new turbocharger produces a max boost pressure of 13 psi. With these upgrades, the engine produces 280hp in Lancer Evo IV and 353 Nm at 3,000 rpm. The engine for the Evo V was tuned up: new cams, 560cc injectors, ECU remap, etc. The twin replaced the turbocharger.
